HISTORIC PRESERVATION AWARDS PRESENTED BY MAYOR Congratulations to owners of two historic homes who were recognized at the May 20, 2024, Payette City Council meeting for their stewardship of historic properties in the City of Payette. Construction of the stucco finished Spanish Revival style Portia Club was competed in late 1927 at a final cost of $4,366. The N.A. Jacobsen House is a Colonial Revival built in 1908 with much of its interior
still in original condition. Jacobsen became a fruit grower and shipper, and his operation later evolved into American Fine Foods, a large fruit and vegetable processor in Payette. Historic Preservation Awards are presented in May of each year to coincide with National Preservation Month. The National Trust for Historic Preservation recognizes preservation efforts through events that promote historic places and heritage tourism, and that demonstrate the social and economic benefits of historic preservation. According to their website, “This May, our Preservation Month theme is “People Saving Places” to shine the spotlight on everyone doing the work of saving places—in big ways and small.”
